As we sit at the brink of 2018 we may look back on 2017 in many different ways.  The days ahead of us are a mystery and perhaps filled with some uncertainty.  Isaiah 52:12 gives us a good frame of reference to enter a new year with all of the questions it holds.  God is before us and behind us and His presence should bring comfort to us.

Our Christmas Eve Service is always a great time of fun and informal celebration of the season.  This year we look at the things that came to man that first Christmas Eve and perhaps why they are so important to us today.  Merry Christmas

Christmas can be a busy time.  Understatement of the year, I know.  But among all the clamor and clatter, the food and the fun, we can miss what really matters and usually it is none of these things.  Imagine if the shepherds and the wise men had been too busy to go and see Jesus and worship Him.  What would they have missed?  Something way better than they had decided to spend their efforts on that is for sure.  This Christmas slow down and take the scenic route.  You may be surprised what you see when you do.

Rushed upon. That is how the Bible describes the coming of the Holy Spirit in both the Old and New Testament. David, Samson and the believers in Acts. Same picture...rushed upon. The unstoppable force of the church was that way because the Holy Spirit was active in their lives and they did amazing works. Why is that not the way the Church is today? In North America we are often kind of ineffective and the power of God is not seen like it was in Acts 2. We need to get back to that.

Is Jesus not enough? In many ways yes. He is enough to save us and He is our redeemer for sure. But as we live life seeking to glorify God in our world we need power that is not in us without the Holy Spirit. In fact we have been given a mission to share and proclaim the gospel throughout the world and we are called to follow God's design for our life. We need the Holy Spirit to do both of those things.

Expectations were high for the disciples as they waited in Jerusalem. As we begin a new series today on the Holy Spirit, take a moment and think about what you know or what you think of when you consider the Holy Spirit. Why do we not desire the Holy Spirit to be working in our lives like He did in the life of the disciples? Maybe we have just forgotten what a blessing He is to us.

What is the Reformation and why is it important, especially to us 500 years later? Great questions. While we may know some people and events surrounding the Reformation we may struggle to figure out why it is a big deal today. We hope this message is an answer to some of these questions and an encouragement to you.

We need each other. In order for us to become the best followers of our saviour we need others in our lives. The example of Jesus' ministry gives us a pattern to follow in making reproducing disciples/ That is what we are called to do. Shall we just ignore the command of Jesus or get busy with His will for each of us?

What happens when the lights go out? When it is not legal to own a Bible? When prison is the expectation of every follower of Jesus? It will never happen here you say...maybe, maybe not. Our landscape in North America is becoming much more hostile to the message of the Bible. Besides there are many nations that today this is the reality. If that happened to you how much of God's Word would you take with you in your head and in your heart?
