The beginning of the Sermon on the Mount is Jesus describing how citizens of His kingdom need to view life and how they should conduct themselves. In fact as Jesus ratifies many of the 10 commandments He actually gears them up and brings them to a radically counter-culture level. This is a chapter for North America today. Jesus wants to turns us on our heads.

The Greatness of Our God is a song that we sing regularly at church. My favorite lines in it go like this" I spend my life to know, And I'm far from close, To all You are, the greatness of our God." The point is that we usually think of God as way small and less awesome than He is. In fact, even the biggest we can imagine Him to be is quite inadequate and significantly less that God is in reality. Psalm 139 seeks to expand our thinking on the awesomeness of God.

Today we start a new series looking at some of the favourite / powerful chapters in the Bible as far as our church members see it. Hopefully one or two of the messages will be a favourite of yours as well.

Here we go. Proverbs 3 has some well known verses in it. The topic being discussed is Wisdom and where it comes from and how it is used and why that all is important comes to light in this amazing chapter of the Bible.

We all could use a little more wisdom most days.

Dads are important. We honour them on Father’s Day and that is good, but we also need to see the blessing of a father every day we have with them. Dads make a difference in their children’s lives regarding faith, confidence and becoming all they can be. A father that is engaged with his children and points them to Jesus is a father that is successful.

Giving everything we have. That is 100%. Athletes actually talk about giving 110% which I don't think is possible. What God does expect from His children though is that all of them are doing something for Him and that we do whatever it is with all of our passion, heart and energy. The beginning of a year is a time we usually do some evaluation of our lives. Maybe we also need to be considering what we are doing for God.

We don’t get as much mail as we used to. When we get a letter now it is usually a big deal and we take the time to read it. In the scripture we look at today we learn that Paul calls the followers of Jesus living letters. The challenge is this…is our life story a good advertisement or a bad one for Jesus

Sometimes we have to do difficult things. Like forgiving people that have hurt us. Like forgiving and forgetting that past failures of others. Today we see the pattern that the Apostle Paul gives us to follow when it comes to forgiveness. Basically it comes down to Forgive, Comfort, Love. Now to just do it…

We have lots to be thankful for in Canada. We are healthy, wealthy and free in so many ways. We really should be thankful all year long not just for a long weekend in October. An even bigger question is why should we be thankful? Maybe we do not consider it a good year, physically, financially or personally. As a follower of Jesus we still have lots to thank God for.

We need other people in our lives. People make our journey in this world enjoyable, eventful, rich. The family of God is just that a family. When you belong to a family there is never any option to do things in isolation. It demands connection with each other. Sadly followers of Jesus sometimes believe they can do it all on their own. The truth is that we can’t and in fact God commands us to do lots of things together. The Apostle Paul describes his reliance on other believers in our text today. If he needed other we probably do too.
