Rushed upon. That is how the Bible describes the coming of the Holy Spirit in both the Old and New Testament. David, Samson and the believers in Acts. Same picture...rushed upon. The unstoppable force of the church was that way because the Holy Spirit was active in their lives and they did amazing works. Why is that not the way the Church is today? In North America we are often kind of ineffective and the power of God is not seen like it was in Acts 2. We need to get back to that.

Is Jesus not enough? In many ways yes. He is enough to save us and He is our redeemer for sure. But as we live life seeking to glorify God in our world we need power that is not in us without the Holy Spirit. In fact we have been given a mission to share and proclaim the gospel throughout the world and we are called to follow God's design for our life. We need the Holy Spirit to do both of those things.

Expectations were high for the disciples as they waited in Jerusalem. As we begin a new series today on the Holy Spirit, take a moment and think about what you know or what you think of when you consider the Holy Spirit. Why do we not desire the Holy Spirit to be working in our lives like He did in the life of the disciples? Maybe we have just forgotten what a blessing He is to us.

What is the Reformation and why is it important, especially to us 500 years later? Great questions. While we may know some people and events surrounding the Reformation we may struggle to figure out why it is a big deal today. We hope this message is an answer to some of these questions and an encouragement to you.

We need each other. In order for us to become the best followers of our saviour we need others in our lives. The example of Jesus' ministry gives us a pattern to follow in making reproducing disciples/ That is what we are called to do. Shall we just ignore the command of Jesus or get busy with His will for each of us?

What happens when the lights go out? When it is not legal to own a Bible? When prison is the expectation of every follower of Jesus? It will never happen here you say...maybe, maybe not. Our landscape in North America is becoming much more hostile to the message of the Bible. Besides there are many nations that today this is the reality. If that happened to you how much of God's Word would you take with you in your head and in your heart?

Prayer might be the most confusing, frustrating and neglected thing in a Christian's life. We pray without power or anticipation, without diligence, without passion and yet we expect God to either come through big when we have little faith or perhaps even worse we don't expect prayer to change anything. The disciples understood the power of prayer and asked Jesus to help them. Maybe we all need to do the same.

This seems pretty obvious doesn't it? Unfortunately what study after study has revealed is the Christians spend very little if any time reading, studying and meditating on God's word. Is it any wonder that we don't know what God wants us to do or be? The challenge here is simple. Find your Bible three, four, five times during the week, crack it open and dig in.

Today we got a chance to share a walk with people in the community during the Terry Fox Run. Every day we get to walk alongside people and live life with them. Do we bother to tell them about Jesus? Sounds scary right? How about you just start by telling them your story and telling what God has done in your life since you came to Jesus and what He has done lately in you. Our lives may be the most compelling thing that draws people to Jesus. What has He done for you? Tell someone today.
